What is Salaam America?

reblogged from khatman

khatman:

Salaam America was created by Fatima (whom no longer has a personal tumblr, so if you would like to contact her, please contact the project tumblr) and Nissa

Mission: Getting rid of Islamophobia, we strive to reach this goal by meeting, interviewing and showing you, the viewer, the people who represent the vast diversity that follows the faith of Islam. We will showcase the differences of not only culture but also in schools of thought and practice.

What we’ve done so far:

  • Fatima and Nissa had worked hard and were able to get our $3,000 (imo, very very low budget) from kickstarter (whom took about 10% of the total amount, leaving us with less than we were expecting).
  • With that budget, it covered Fatima’s flights and additional equipment other than the camera and camcorder provided to us; ie. tripods, external microphone, external hard drive, etc; however, the budget didn’t cover all expenses and we ended up having a great deal of out of pocket expenses.
  • Recording outside of our immediate area is long over and the process of audio and video lining up is commencing — my job in this project

What we need to do/get help with:

  • I will soon be working on editing the video as soon as I get done with the process of lining up the video and audio.
  • We are in need of a logo/icon. I’ve tried out some ideas and well I’m honestly too brain dead to think of any, if someone wouldn’t mind making us something to help represent the project/documentary, we will of course expose you to our viewers/followers. If you have an idea, submit it to us: Salaam America, Nissa or myself.
  • We have about two songs (and a few people interested in the project), one of which we’re unsure if we’d even get to use for the project so far. Many can agree when I say a soundtrack can help create a mood (ie. any movie Hans Zimmer or game Jesper Kyd have made a soundtrack for, it’d be impossible to deny the mood created), we’re currently in search of artists that would like to be promoted through our documentary. We can’t pay you but allowing us the right to use your music, we will be exposing you to those that are interested in the project and perhaps, if you live in my immediate area I could make you a music video as a thanks.
