itsnofairytale asked: I think what you are doing is very moving and I think we need more people like you that help raise awareness of Islam and of Muslims. We have a lot of negative portrayal of Muslims and people forget to realise that we are actually humans too we are no different from anyone else.

thepopulistbuddhist asked: I find this project so great! I can't wait to watch this documentary. I am Buddhist but I find Islam to be a very beautiful religion. Well, I believe there is something beautiful in every religion, but I think Islam is one of the most misunderstood by the Western world. I think Buddhists and Muslims are very misunderstood in just America. The average American has a skewed perception of...

When my son was born, I didn’t know what to expect. I was nineteen and I didn’t know what was going to happen or how my life would change. And even though I was married then, my parents weren’t happy because they wanted me to go to College and finish my Education before having kids.
It was a difficult situation for me. And I felt very alone but I knew I wasn’t. Now that...

snowcrowsarcastic asked: The Denver Airport is awesome. Did you walk around it?
My family in California.
I have an uncle here who I haven’t seen in years. My cousins are super awesome and they’ve grown so much. I get to interview Monica tonight once she comes back from work. They have the most beautiful Christmas tree of all time and I love looked at the different ornaments. My uncle’s wife is from the Philippines and she’s one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met....
Today in California
We woke up super early
Went to the Masjid
Got some falafel
Interviewed a very knowledgeable Imam
Learned many new things
Went to Laguna Beach
Picked some lemons
Had some frozen yogurt
Got stuck in traffic
Gave somebody in need a cupcake and hot chocolate
Became good friends.

The beauty of being open minded.
In this documentary we have Sunnis, Shias, Sufis, Christians, Jews, Atheists, Hindus and more working together.
Now that Muharram has started we will be writing about that topic. A Sunni sister will give their experience visiting a Shia Mosque.
Tonight I am giving a speech at a Masjid so I have to read more about Ashura and Imam Hussein.
Again, thank you for following this project.
Interview with Shafeqa: Part 2
SalaamAmerica: So did you? Or rather, do you take care of them?
Shafeqa: I work full time. I support my family and I send money every month. I feed 26 people in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I am always there for them. It's my responsibility. It's what my mom would have wanted me to do.
SA: When did you get married?
Shafeqa: When I was eighteen after being asked by multiple people who I turned down.
SA: How many people asked for your hand in marriage?
Shafeqa: Fifteen to sixteen. *laughs*
SA: That's amazing.
Shafeqa: Well our family was well known, I was the eldest and I was beautiful.
SA: Why did you marry who you married?
Shafeqa: During difficult times like those, unmarried women were kidnapped often so for safety mostly. I didn't know him very well but my mother told me to marry him and so I did.
SA: Were you happy?
Shafeqa: I was nor happy, nor sad.
SA: What can you tell me about the war?
Shafeqa: The Russians? Well, when I went to Kabul we would hide in the basement all day and night. The rockets and bullets were being fired constantly. From night to morning. Mostly at night time.
SA: Was that difficult for you?
Shafeqa: Yes my daughters were three and one at the time.
SA: Are you happy now that you are in America?
Shafeqa: Yes, I have a good job. I support my family. I am living peacefully. I just miss my brothers and sisters greatly.

Islamic Story.
My father has been telling me stories about character, the Prophet and Islam since I was a little girl. Nobody in the family was as interested as I was. So even now when he has a story, he calls me to come into the room and I could sit for hours listening. Tonight he told me a story that touched my heart and I wanted to share it with everyone. Whether you believe in these stories or not is...

I just read your blog about prayer and I LOVED it. I just converted and I kind of have to try hard to not get distraced during prayer - the rest of my family is Christian so I don't really think some of them understand the peace needed to actually pray. But mashallah, your blog was beyind inspiring and I want to feel like that everytime I pray too.
