What is Salaam America?
khatman:
Salaam America was created by Fatima (whom no longer has a personal tumblr, so if you would like to contact her, please contact the project tumblr) and Nissa.
Mission: Getting rid of Islamophobia, we strive to reach this goal by meeting, interviewing and showing you, the viewer, the people who represent the vast diversity that follows the faith of Islam. We will showcase the...
does anyone want to promote their band/music...
khatman:
our documentary is lacking a soundtrack, and we would love to help jumpstart someone’s career through the documentary. Signal boosting would be lovely, I will reblog this a few times during the day to see if anyone is interested.

khatman asked: Fatima janom, you are wonderful. <3
What are your thoughts on All American Muslim?
Anonymous asked: In your story, "engaged at 17" you talk about being religious in the past tense. Did your marriage experience have an affect on your religiousness?

I was born in a little village in Afghanistan. It was winter and it was cold. And there weren’t any hospitals around so I was born in a house without any doctors, it was a very difficult birth for my mother. Then when I was 7 months old I had many breathing problems and my mother thought I would die. My uncle had to go on horseback for a week to get me medication. That happened a few more...
themelancholymaze asked: Your story is so touching and inspiring, it nearly brought me to tears. I admire your courage, determination, and your love for Amir. I hope when he grows up, he'll find out how strong how his mother is. Thank you for sharing your story (:
therealestworld asked: You should write a book! You had me hooked into your story throughout the whole thing. Being 17, being close to that region, I kinda felt what you might've gone through.
bendtheuniverse asked: Hi, I just read your story engaged at 17 and I'm sorry you had to go through that , I understand what you mean about the beauty of Afghanistan, I just visited recently and I wish more people saw the country and the people the way we do, I hope you have lots of happiness in your life now and m'ashallah your son is very beautiful

piousblunt-deactivated20111222 asked: I read "Engaged at 17" and was bawling. <Hugs> Keep strong woman! Also what do you think you can do to help other women in situations like yourself?
hannahsnowflakes asked: I really love your story. Somehow I can totally relate to what you're fighting for since I am also a muslim teenage girl here in the Philippines. Arrange marriage is also being practiced here but I was lucky that my parents wont even force me to engage in such thing. They want me to finish my studies and have a good job in the future before letting anyone ask for my hand. =) But, really....

misterdelfuego asked: Hello, my name is Brandon and I am in the process of reading your "Engaged at Seventeen" post and it prompted me to follow your blog as well. I look forward to reading and learning more from your posts.

thelittlephilosopher asked: You are one amazing, strong and resilient woman, Mash’allah. Your story was very inspiring and touched my heart. May Allah swt bless you insh’allah.
alikareem asked: Hi, I just finished reading your story "engaged at 17" and I was really touched by it for many reasons. I was raised by mother and aunts, and I got to see the dark side of marriage many times. I whole heartedly agree with the last statement you made on getting married. By the way, when I was born my mother also named me after Imam Ali. Anyway I'm in film school now in LA at the USC...
fixthatmess asked: Thank you so much for doing this documentary/blog. I like to think that I'm a worldly, knowledgeable Jewish American, but I really have so much to learn. Thank you for giving me, and others like me, a place to start the learning process.
Anonymous asked: How old are you now?
cynicallyjade asked: For what it's worth, I think you have an amazing strength of character. All the while reading through your story I felt this bitter sadness in me that men who get women that put in so much effort to make a marriage work take them for granted and focus on cultural bull, while others that desperately want and can appreciate a woman like that are either deemed socially unacceptable or they end...

The thing about life
Is it’s very difficult and it doesn’t stop for anyone. This documentary has changed my life dramatically and I want nothing more than to share it with everyone. I just have had some major changes occur in my life and it’s been slowing down the process. Honestly I am trying my best.
If you must know, or rather if I must share (I like sharing) I broke up with somebody who I...

My mom...
Me: So mom what did you expect to see when you came to America?
Mom: Pork everywhere.
Me: What?
Mom: Well I was always told in Afghanistan that everybody in America eats pork all the time.
My uncle called from Pakistan
He told me that there are men with guns stopping buses coming in from Afghanistan and they are telling the real Muslims to stay on the bus and the kaffirs (Non-believers) to get off. They then proceed to shoot those who get off the bus. By non-believers they mean the Shia Muslims.
One elderly man with a long white beard who was Sunni Muslim asked the gunmen, “Why are you doing this? We are...

Anonymous asked: Hi- I used to follow fatimasfilosofee, but I left tumblr for awhile. I was just wondering if she still had a tumblr? I loved her posts! Sorry to ask through this, but I remember she was involved with this project.
skycloudsky asked: The political climate of Islamophobia and Islam bashing is unfounded and scary. I mourn with you. I'm sorry for your pain. One day soon, I pray, Muslims and Islam will no longer be blamed for this act of political violence. One day soon, I pray, all good people will recognize each other and work together to make this a more grateful world, a more loving world, and a more compassionate world....
skycloudsky asked: You touched my heart with your post. I know it's not an apology, because neither you nor Islam is responsible for that act of political violence. I'm sorry you and other Muslims are persecuted and blamed for 9/11. I, too, raised myself to rever all life as you do. I mourn with the families who lost loved ones, and I also mourn because of the irrational blaming of Muslims and Islam. (1 of...
